Comparison of postprandial metabolism between postmenopausal and women of reproductive age

Woman

Menopause is a natural process, inseparable from aging in women, which usually begins in the fourth decade of life. This phase is characterized by a decrease in ovary follicular activity, which leads to endocrine and metabolic changes, inducing changes in body composition and intermediary metabolism, compromising quality and life expectancy. It is currently unknown how menopause can affect key postprandial responses such as inflammation and bile acid metabolism - processes that are currently on the sporlight in hutrition research. By carrying out dietary challenges with postmenopausal women and women at reproductive age, we hope to contribute to understanding metabolic changes that occur after menopause and point out mechanisms involved in the development of chronic diseases in this phase of women's life. Expected outcomes range from a greater understanding of menopausal physiology to identifying early markers of metabolic disease.
